    About the Presentation:

    This dynamic session will provide a basic overview of FMLA and ADA to help educate HR professionals and Managers on fundamental components of each law. 

    We will also dive into real-life employee situations that HR professionals and managers face on a regular basis through an interactive table top discussion – What Would You Do? 

     

    Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of things to consider when working through employee relations scenarios and how FMLA and ADA come into play.

     

    About the Presenters: 

    Dawn Miller, HR Partner, Assurant, will lead the discussion and   Jennifer Frank, Employment Attorney, Lynn Jackson, will assist providing perspective from the legal angle.   

      

    Dawn Miller has worked for Assurant for the past 15 years and has over 20 years HR Generalist experience.  She has her SHRM-CP and PHR certification and is a current board member on BHSHRM.  She is active with the community through work by volunteering and inspiring others to get involved.  She stays busy with her husband and twin boys (who just turned 13!).  She enjoys camping, square dancing and binge-watching shows on Netflix. 

     

    Jennifer Frank is an employment lawyer with the law firm of Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun, in Rapid City, SD.  Jennifer has been an attorney for 22 years, and was previously employed in several positions in human resources.  Jennifer advises businesses and human resources professionals on a variety of employment issues, including discrimination, FMLA, ADA/disability, wage & hour, hiring/firing/discipline, and non-compete issues. She also counsels and drafts employment contracts, including executive agreements, severance plans and separation agreements, as well as reviews, revises and drafts employment handbooks, policies and procedures.  When more formal disputes arise, Jennifer handles administrative charges of discrimination and employment litigation.  She is a frequent lecturer and trainer on various employment issues affecting employers.  In addition, she conducts neutral workplace investigations for a range of organizations.  

    Jennifer is active in Black Hills SHRM, having served as its Certification Director for three years, is currently BH SHRM President-Elect, and will be BH SHRM President in 2020.  Jennifer enjoys family time with her husband and two teenagers, hiking, camping, gardening, cooking, and reading.
