BHSHRM is excited to host our August Foundation Picnic on the 27th. The picnic will be held at the Black Hills State University Center off Elk Vale Rd. We will be watching a SHRM webinar titled “Veterans in the Workforce: Best Practices to Attract, Hire and Retain Veterans in Your Workplace”. As in previous years, the Board will cover the cost of the luncheon and the proceeds raised will be returned to the SHRM Foundation in support of their efforts to champion workforce and workplace transformation. The Foundation provides research-based HR solutions for challenging inclusion issues facing current and potential employees, scholarships to educate and develop HR professionals, and opportunities for HR professionals to make a difference in their local communities.

    About the Webinar:

U.S. military veterans are highly educated and often have transferable certifications and licenses, as well as “soft skills” that employers value. In this program, developed with the SHRM Foundation, Cherrie Davis of ShiftForward will go over best practices for hiring, developing and supporting veterans. You will get guidance for five critical stages of the employee life cycle:

    • Employer readiness
    • Talent acquisition
    • Talent hiring and onboarding
    • Talent development
    • Talent mobility

About the Presenter: Cherrie Davis, SHRM-SCP, is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and president of ShiftForward, based in Atlanta. She is a recognized visionary leader who draws on more than 28 years of experience leading strategic human resources, change management and coaching initiatives in the defense, nonprofit and corporate sectors. She culminated her military career at the Pentagon, by leading the Army Chief of Staff’s transitional strategy in three pivotal roles: chief of operations for transition strategic outreach; deputy director for transition strategic outreach and as the employment director for the Soldier for Life program. After her military service, Davis worked as an HR director at Our Lady of the Lake, a quality trainer and organizational developer for GE Financial Services and as the senior integration leader at GE Capital.
